Leaving No One Behind: How One Vehicle is Transforming Outreach to Hard-to-Reach Areas

Leaving No One Behind: How One Vehicle is Transforming Outreach to Hard-to-Reach Areas

In December 2023, we faced a significant challenge. The El Niño rains had severely impacted
our outreach programs, making it nearly impossible to extend services to communities at the
periphery. Our only vehicle then was no match for the deteriorated muddy roads, and as a result,
our outreach activities came to a halt.
Thankfully, with the generous donation of $50,000 from the Risk Pool Fund, all this changed.
The donation allowed us to purchase a brand new Toyota Hilux double-cabin, which has been
a game changer for our programs. The new vehicle has enabled us to resume and expand our
outreach activities, reaching over 11,000 individuals in hard-to-reach areas of Nama, Kyampisi,
Ntunda, Kimenyedde, the majority being women and children.
In addition to facilitating routine outreach activities, the Toyota Hilux supports our supported
Community Health Workers (CHWs). During heavy rains, when motorcycles, the most
common form of transportation in our catchment area, are unable to operate, the Hilux
guarantees continuity of supply for essential health commodities and services to the communities
that largely depend on CHWs.
We are very grateful to the Risk Pool Fund for their generosity and concern for the last mile
population, and to CRI for the recommendation. With their support, we are surely leaving no
one behind!
