In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, NAWEC recruited and deployed 50 Community Health Workers (CHWs) to build a strong support system at the village level. Trained, equipped, and assigned to their respective villages, these CHWs have been pivotal in ensuring that communities stay safe and healthy. They facilitate access to health centers through referrals, provide accurate health information, and conduct Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) for children under five years. Through ICCM, the CHWs have successfully treated 477 children for malaria, 309 for pneumonia, and 172 for diarrhea, while making 3,295 referrals.
In addition to direct care, CHWs actively participate in monthly health center meetings, advocating for better healthcare services and advising on effective ways to serve their communities.
